Cal Trans District 8 Headquarters

Located in San Bernardino County, the Cal Trans District 8 Headquarters offers a vibrant office and amenity space for the State of California, responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of California’s highway system.

Sustainability and personal well-being were two of the driving forces behind the design for the Cal Trans District 8 Headquarters building, which serves as a model of development for downtown San Bernardino. Delivered through a precursor to the Public Private Partnership model, the thirteen-level office tower is located on an entire city block along 4th Street just steps away from the historic California Theater.

Respectful of the context along 4th Street, the building’s façade design utilizes a punched window system to the south optimizing views while reducing the solar exposure, and a high-performance glazed curtainwall system to the north capitalizing on northern daylight while boasting views northward to the San Bernardino Mountains.
