LUME at Newfields Museum
THE LUME Indianapolis is a groundbreaking multi-sensory experience located on the fourth floor of the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields. Occupying nearly 30,000 square feet, it stands as the largest continuous exhibition space in the museum’s history. This immersive gallery utilizes nearly 150 state-of-the-art digital projectors to showcase famous master paintings, enveloping visitors in a dynamic display of light, color, and sound.
The exhibition has featured renowned artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet, transporting guests to different eras and artistic movements. For instance, during the “Monet & Friends Alive” exhibit, visitors were transported to 19th-century Paris, experiencing Impressionist paintings on an enormous scale, accompanied by a musical score from Europe’s most renowned composers.
Beyond the galleries, THE LUME extends into the museum’s gardens, incorporating seasonal displays inspired by the imagery found in Impressionist paintings, such as Monet’s infamous water lilies. This integration allows guests to experience art both indoors and in nature, reflecting the harmonious blend of art and environment. Each exhibition at THE LUME Indianapolis offers a unique, immersive journey, inviting visitors to engage with art in an innovative and transformative manner.
