Tarkington Park
Tarkington Park is located in Maple Crossing near the intersection of West 39th Street and North Meridian Street and the result of The Tarkington Park Master Plan, adopted by the City of Indianapolis, to create a stronger sense of community among the residents.
Situated in the historically diverse neighborhood of Butler – Tarkington on the north side of downtown, The Tarkington Park Master Plan envisioned a space that celebrates urban living, encourages revitalization, and encourages economic development for this upper-middle class neighborhood, with the goal of creating a stronger sense of community.
The implementation of Phase 1 of the master plan called for the design of a Park Pavilion, a water-jet fountain plaza, and a children’s play area / playscape built in the southwest corner of the site. Rational and respectful in its design with a linear roof that covers the 3,000 F² building’s primary programmatic elements, the café and public restrooms, the building’s transparency and physical connectivity through the facility unifies the water plaza and the playscape to create a cohesive design that will allow for future phases of the park to grow over time.
