Delhi Noida International Airport
Dominating a key position in the global race for ever-expanding air travel and transfer points, the new Delhi Noida International Airport will process over 15 million travelers annually with expansion capabilities to 60 million travelers to meet the needs of the rapidly expanding National Capital Region of India.
Conceived as a gateway to Noida and the National Capital Region, the Terminal Building departures level is raised above grade to create separation from the arrivals level which brings passengers directly into open-air courtyards at the end of their journey. In this context the building is the dominant and most imposing structure on the horizon with a profile silhouetted against the sky. At night the building’s illuminated interior creates a transparent structure which is visible from the Yamuna Expressway 2 kilometers away.
The clear organization of the building, the internal and external views, and the overhead light monitors create anchor-points for ease of natural wayfinding. Passengers will logically find their way through the terminal process in a both efficient and relaxed manner. The terminal is designed to a human scale and comfortable passenger experience. Along with the integration of green, natural light and air, the qualitative outdoor spaces, unique experiences, and warm materials blend with Indian culture to create a comfortable and healthy airport. Through the idea of opening the roofs, daylight is maximized for natural comfort and connects the traveler with the vast Indian skies.
