HART Middle Street Station
Located in Honolulu among Hawaii’s most ambitious public transit projects, the Hawaii Authority Rapid Transportation Middle Street Station is a multi-modal transit facility that integrates disparate transport programs into a single gateway, enhancing passenger convenience and invigorating the regional economy.
The Honolulu Rail Transit project, built in four sections, is a 20-mile-long grade separated public transportation system with 21 stations that connect East Kapolei, near the University of Hawaii in Western Oahu, through the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, to Kalia Station at the Ala Moana Shopping Center in Waikiki. The Middle Street Station, part of the Airport Section, is the only station to be built above water.
The Middle Steet Station, known as Kahauiki, is an elevated side platform structure with a bridge that connects over Kamehameha Highway to the Kalihi Transit Center. The Kalihi Transit Center is home to The Bus, the island of Oahu’s largest provider of public transportation. On the site of the Kalihi Transit Center is also a Kiss-and-Ride system with parking for 200 cars making the Hawaii Authority Rapid Transportation Middle Street Station a true multi-modal transit facility
