Metropolitan Transportation & Communications Dispatch Center

The design for the Metropolitan Transportation & Communications Dispatch Center provides maximum service, 24/7 operations, and gives confidence to the citizens of L.A. while ensuring ideal traveling conditions throughout Los Angeles.

The facility’s design and planning address the needs for an essential services facility in a building that must stay operational on a 24/7 basis in the event of a natural disaster such as an earthquake, flood, fire or acts of terrorism. The Metropolitan Transportation & Communications Dispatch Center’s design is a base isolated structure to withstand even the greatest earthquake, the dominant form of natural disasters in Southern California.

A centralized compact plan, the control room on level 2 is a hardened facility and the heart of the operations that monitors the transportation arteries throughout the City of Los Angeles. The high-volume operations room provides natural daylight through clerestory monitors, to provide staff connectivity to the outside world in what is very stressful situation should an emergency occur.
