Zhengjiang City Walk + Entertainment Center
An important regeneration project in the City of Zhengjiang, Zhengjiang CityWalk is an exciting mixed-use development where the scheme has been surgically inserted into the existing context of a commercial and residential neighborhood to form a dynamic city block, creating connectivity within the district.
Rethinking the nature of the site, the scheme is activated on all sides by a uses that include residential, commercial, and retail. Maximizing permeability was a priority. The unique and linear nature of the “L” shaped site created an opportunity to place open space in the center along the length of the site, providing access to the neighborhood residential and the commercial areas beyond creating a sense of place optimizing pedestrian connectivity. Building services were carefully planned below the roof to provide clear visibility from the surrounding residential buildings.
Building height on the new building’s ranges from mid- to high-rise and distinctive façades both complement and contrast with the existing context. Glass, metal, glazed terracotta, and brick on the external facades reference the masonry and glazed-brick buildings that characterize the area. Organized in an informal pattern, these panels respond to the tradition of craft throughout the district.
