Ningbo Incineration Power Plant
Located on the periphery of Ningbo, CITIC as part of China’s renewable energy & green building initiative, commissioned the Ningbo Incineration Power Plant which is designed to convert waste into energy.
The Ningbo Incineration Power Plant is the first of three such facilities to be built across China as part of the country’s goal to achieve 86% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2050. The program is comprised of two distinct buildings: a 45,000 M² incineration power plant and a 5,000 M² office / training center and sleeping quarters for the employees that operate the facility.
The technology designed to convert waste into energy uses household garbage as a fuel for generating power, much like other power stations use coal, oil, or natural gas. The burning of the waste heats water and the steam drives a turbine to generate electricity. The waste is simply steam which is discharged into the atmosphere through a large chimney. The Incineration Power Plant’s hallmark is that it contains a Customer Experience Center which was designed as a journey through the facility to educate the public on the virtues of green power.
